In boring places, like those where I come from and live, you need to learn to keep yourself busy with stuff you can do alone (but probably you also have to be the kind of person to have a lot of fun alone). Especially hobbies that need a lot of practicing and doing are very good for this.

That shrinky-dinks stuff looks somewhat fun, like many many things that are "for children"...
Anyone knows perler beads? I LOVED that shit, and I want it back. Too bad we don't have any of those anymore... I'll have to wish for those for my birthday :D

I just bought a coffee grinder and a Bialetti Brikka.
Youtube makes the latter look very awesome. I liked the espresso from my old Bialetti Moka Express, but it didn't have any crema.
Which is not the (main) reason I bought this now, but I ruined the old one because I forgot it on the stove. Melted plastic smells like shit, especially when that smell's mixed with the smell of extremely burnt coffee powder. Ugh. I still feel like I killed that poor reliable little machine out of stupidity, and I'm so sorry. :(

My girlfriend didn't have any idea of using Ubuntu, but after I installed and showed her the important stuff and the cool games that you can get for it (SuperTux2- just lol that she loves it), she figured out most of the rest herself.
However, she still has 10.04. I'm personally somewhat mad at the 11 and 12 versions and won't upgrade it for her, as she's perfectly fine with 10.04 and loves using it.

She, my mum, and my little sister are using 10.04 LTS as I installed it and set it up for them, and also my brother installed Ubuntu for his girlfriend, saying "if Nora (my little sister, 10 years old to date) can use, you can use it too".
I wondered about how good she can deal with Ubuntu and figure out things herself, for example she installed a game from the package manager and made herself a custom theme with an ugly-ass comic-style font (she loves it, what can you do). I hope she becomes a real nerd one day- if she isn't one already. I do my best to make this happen.

The four male characters are pretty much okay, but god, the roles and clichés they're associated with are just so damn exaggerated and overused.
What really, REALLY bugs me is 'Penny'. She's not fucking funny. A FUCKIN' NERD ALARM could do the same job as her, but be much times more funnier. All she does is run into conversations about pseudo-scientific topics, make an ugly IDONTGETIT-face and say "ooookay?" and thus disturb and often end those conversations that are at least funny to some degree.

About 50% as much as I hate Two And A Half Men, but that's still enough hate to say that it fucking sucks balls.

Both shows have their lol moments, but to me, those are very rare, and the rest of the time they're just annoyingly stupid and overusing shitty clichés to the max.

I first thought you meant you'd fix it by burning some linux distribution, but you said "reinstall kubuntu".

High five on forced-linux-user-girlfriend. (My gf loves it today and hates it to switch over to Vista to play some games or such.)

About the same here, though I'm generally less trustful to strangers, or rather- authorites than you seem to be there (no assumptions intended). I'd consider myself to have a left-winged political view, but that doesn't mean that I have to be an ACAB idiot.
I think the hatred on the police is very often just a ventile to let off steam for people who actually just hate the state or all higher authorities because they disagree with their views and actions. For sure, there are policemen who don't 'just do their job', but I think it's not a huge problem in Germany, at least not in the area where I live/come from.

Oh, and a story from my childhood on policemen... I was very effing afraid of them when I was younger and felt highly uncomfortable when one was around me, probably because I thought they could easily see in my face that I "hid something": I stole rechargeable AA batteries from a local DIY market, for all the electric (mostly they weren't even electronic) devices I was interested in at that time, and I stole them because I really didn't have 20€, as I got 6€ a month, I think. But mainly I did it because I wanted ones with a higher capacity (2200mAH) than my brother had (1800mAH). I only had 800mAH ones before that... And 2200mAH felt like hi-tech to me at that time :D
