I dunno, I like the aesthetics and the interface is super robust and usable, since it's built for live use. I've used both Cubase, Logic, Reason etc in the past, but Live 4 was love at first sight. Any other DAW feels cumbersome and fiddly to me now.

Tact is a friend of ours. I don't think any of his old stuff is available online, but I might have some modules on an old harddrive somewhere.

I recommend Geeks. It's relatively straight-forward and simple to play, and should be easy to adapt to a more rock like sound.

I discovered the other day that slapping Auto-Tune in front of a vocoder works really well if you have a source that's sung to pitch rather than monotone.

It's not auto-tuned, it's a vocoder. These days he's using a microKORG.

Sliding to a note is impossible with a VST, it's a MIDI limitation. You can fake it with pitch bend, just remember the pitch bend range can vary from plugin to plugin.

Never used MadTracker, so I don't know what the commands are.

Also, this syntax won't work in PHP4:
   1  $name = $xml->characterInfo->character->attributes()->name;


You would have to bind the result of the attributes function to a variable first:

   1  $attributes = $xml->characterInfo->character->attributes();
   2  $name = $attributes->name;
