Operating System you're running ? Started by Kabelmaulwurf, Last active Feb 16, 2011, 89 posts
MacBook with Triple-boot: OSX 10.5.8, Ubuntu Studio 8.10 (primary up until a month ago) and Ubuntu 10.10 (currently primary)
Old PC currently running Ubuntu 10.04, but that could change to any Linux distro if I feel like trying something new (the harddrive is practically empty, minus the OS). I also have an extra harddrive for it with XP installed.

Is it possible for operating systems to be discussed on the internet without a debate starting? Even on OS-specific forums (esp. Ubuntu Forums) debates still start over things such as desktop environments (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.). Oh well.

Posted by elektronaut:After Effects is probably what you want.

Yeah, that's really all I can think of as well. Open Source & free software is lacking quite a bit in video editing.

Just had an idea: save the video as a sequence of .pngs, then use 'Open as Layer' in GIMP to open them all into the same file. Go through and draw on each layer, then save all the layers separately (I think there is a script to save all layers as separate images). Not the most efficient way, but it should work.

Posted by Alexander Kramer:Just throwing this out there, but does anyone here know of a good, freeware program that allows you to create animations in a video, like drawing "over" a video someone else has filmed? My buddy and I might start collaborating with skate vids or something like that.

I've never attempted anything like this, and thought I'd give it a whorl.

Got any videos showing what you're trying to achieve?

Posted by rachaelivy:bin-ar-pee-loot (technically the ä is a Swedish character, not Norwegian)

the i is pronounced like an 'e', sort of like "bean" but not as long. the "ar" is pronounced like a hard R. and you just, say it fast like..? haha, hard to explain.

just say binarypilot, that's what I do when telling my American friends because that's what it translates to. If they want to know the Scandinavian way to say it, I tell them. :)

Good to know.
I've always just said it Binar (as in 'Binary' without the 'y') pilot (as in someone who flies a plane)

That is awesome.

Posted by Alexander Kramer:Wanna have fun with Napkin? Try drawing with Only erase and draw. No undo.

(It's so difficult not to do "z"!)

Have you ever used Alchemy?
It purposefully doesn't have any undo, along with some unique tools and functions for drawing with. It's worth checking out some demo vids of it, or trying it out (it's free/open source)

If anyone wants a full set of tutorials for doing digital drawing/painting (using Alchemy, MyPaint and GIMP) I'd suggest Chaos & Evolutions. The DVD is $38, but it's all under Creative Commons, so you can find it online as well (a few torrent sites have it)

I'm yet another another paranoid person traveling through the intertubes, and so won't tell you my real name. You can call me Pixels if you want.

I'm from New Zealand (any other kiwis here?) and enjoy doing 3D & VFX stuff as well as photography and messing around with a bit of digital art.

Oh, and hi!

Posted by 8_bit Zephyr:none of the american/spanish words in my vocabulary can be used to describe my love for this track. maybe i should learn norweigen (did i spell that right?)

I think a whole new language would have to be invented to describe the awesomeness of this track.

I wish the song would just go on forever.
