The Protect IP Act Started by GodlessProphet, Last active Jan 26, 2012, 10 posts
Does anyone want a new reason to be mad at the US government? No? Too bad because the Protect IP Act is going to allow the entertainment industry to censor websites in the name of fighting piracy.
This video explains it better than I can:

If you want to know how to find the IP address of a website, just use the nslookup command in a unix based command prompt (its the terminal application under utilities in Mac OSX, terminal in Linux, and non-existent in Windows).
If you want to use unix commands in Windows you need cygwin, which can be downloaded here:

Welcome.
Diamond Planet Started by GodlessProphet, Last active Nov 09, 2011, 5 posts
I was reading an article about discoveries in astronomy and found something particularly interesting. Orbiting the dead star J1719-1438 is a planet with a diamond core. It's a little larger than Jupiter but about 20 times denser and 80% carbon. This density suggests the carbon is crystalized. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you planet Blingworld. Scientists think it was once a star in a mutual orbit around J1719-1438 as part of a binary star system. When J1719-1438 went super-nova, the blast stripped the outer layers of the large star down to its carbon core (having a carbon core suggests that it was ready to go super-nova itself). The heat from the super nova and the pressure caused from orbiting something with as much gravity as a pulsar (probably because it is a pulsar) caused the carbon to become dense and crystalize into a diamond larger than our own planet.

I like to think that it will become a retirement home for rappers in the distant future.

If you don't believe me, here's a couple of articles about it.

So they put your parts together in a lab or something? What's your alter ego name?

Welcome.

I am, secretly, the leader of a sect of Illuminati located in Antarctica which has set up an entirely self reliant society of scientists. We are collectively working to end the world and then re-build it. I was assembled from cloned parts of the greatest leaders throughout history and integrated with the most advanced cybernetics available: the brain of Winston Churchill, the liver of JFK, and the balls of Theodore Roosevelt, all combined with machines running Linux. They call me the Godless Prophet because I have the name of a biblical prophet even though I'm an Atheist... Also it sounds awesome...
What are you SUPPOSED to be doing? Started by yuzikichan, Last active 12 days ago, 741 posts
I should be studying my chemistry and math notes, but I'm probably going to surf teh interwebz a bit more. Maybe I will practice some javascript if I feel like doing anything remotely productive.

My real name is Malachi, the name of a biblical prophet and an entire book in the Bible. This is highly ironic because I am an Atheist. I was born in '93 and have always been interested in computers, robots, and astrophysics despite growing up in multiple small towns in the USA.

Posted by pommesgabel:Yes, it would be great for free lessons. I'm playing loads of N64 in those with my classmates, currently. That's nice and nerdy, but not as productive.

Is anything fun ever productive? I did the same thing in high school, now I just end up listening to music while looking at stupid/ funny stuff on teh world wide interwebz. If you will excuse me, according to the rules of the internet, I need to lurk moar (after building that steam punk city in MineCraft).
Thanks for everything, Binärpilot! Started by pommesgabel, Last active Oct 06, 2011, 18 posts
In short, nerds are awesome but Cyborg T-Rexes kick ass, Binaerpilot helped everyone around the planet, and Alexander is going to top Nordland with the next album.

So far this discussion is 100% accurate, it seems.
