It's not close to communism, but we are easily one of the most socialist countries in the world. Everything is heavily regulated by the government for the good of the people.

For instance your question earlier about income; While Rachael is true that the government does not literally decide your pay, they play a highly active part in regulating the salary (and EVERYTHING else) in the private sector. Even if you do a shit job your pay is required to increase annually by a percentage set by the government just to follow inflation.

Examples: You cannot get paid less than X for work Y at age Z. You cannot work more than X. You cannot work for longer periods than X without having Y amount of breaks. You have to take X weeks vacation a year. You cannot work under X environmental conditions (such as too hot/cold/humid/dry/toxic). The list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on...

Practical example: Say you work as a cleaner in a hotel and somebody has thrown up in their room. In Norway the employer then needs to pay you extra for cleaning that specific puddle of puke, and you could even refuse to do it w/o fear of persecution. That should illustrate the level of detail we're talking here.
