Cyberspace » Auto-tune (Question)

What does Binarpilot use to auto-tune his voice in songs like 'Smile'?
Who says it's auto-tuned?
It's not auto-tuned, it's a vocoder. These days he's using a microKORG.
dont let anything get to you, just keep smiling.

but, FOOL!
about 18 hours later…
Smile is mda Vocoder.
about 21 hours later…
Oh, ok.

Thanks for the info.

(btw I am a n00b to music making so thats why I thought it might be auto-tuned. sry)
No need to be sorry mate. Auto-Tune uses a vocoder, so that's an easy mistake to make. Same shit, different wrapping. But while Auto-Tune was made to disguise errors in recorded vocals by automatically correcting pitch of people with no talent. Vocoders were originally developed for encrypting voice communication. You decide which is more bad ass.

Best explanation ever.
I discovered the other day that slapping Auto-Tune in front of a vocoder works really well if you have a source that's sung to pitch rather than monotone.
But talkboxes are cooler than both.

I downloaded it, but I'm not sure how to use it. I'll edit this with more info in a sec.

My two previous question have been answered by internet tutorials. However, I don't know how to combine the two sounds.

You must be a robot. Also, you have to know how to perform either The Robot or Robo Boogie. Affermative?
Affermative.

Actually, wait, I think I've done it. Cyborg T-Rex saves the day again!

1. Pan your carrier left and your modulator right (plugin specific)
2. (Route) both tracks in one channel (tracker specific)
3. Apply vocoder to said channel
Ah, I always wondered how that works without sidechaining.
