Why does every music player I use turn into community things? Spotify, now ay-Tunes. When will Winamp and VLC require log-in before I can use them?
Seriously tired of this community bullshit on all applications.
Then again, spreadsheet (ie Excel) would be awesome as a community thing. "koew added Expenses column to Budget2010.xls - Like this."
/rant (also: published on blog - Like that / Hate this)

You can easily disable Ping completely, and it's in no way mandatory to accessing the iTunes Store.
And I agree that it can be quite useless…
(Community spreadsheet exists : it's called Google Docs. And editing a spreadsheet live with 12 friends of your is quite awesome - try it !)

I like some of it, Spotify for instance. When I'm too lazy to set up a playlist I can just go to a friend who has good taste and press play. Community for the sake of community is pointless, but if there's a worthwhile use of it, I'm all for.
Not saying mandatory login wouldn't be terrible, though.
