Cyberspace » Nordland promo hype
We've all been waiting on Nordland, and it's soon to be released (meaning: for non-Superheroes)!
In that case we need to work up hype on different sites 'n such.
Please suggest sites and (short) text that would be appropriate for submitting.
Suggested sites so far:
#sitename (#who posts)
I'll update the list every time I visit the forum (if any new suggestions).
It's important that we submit one item per site, as reposting/double posting usually gets annoying or removed/down voted.
(Sticky'd the thread, and I'll unsticky after the job's done)

I agree whole-heartedly. After the little bump we made a few months ago emailing blogs and such, I admit I haven't really done anything else other than try to set up a show when we're home in the States!
If you haven't done this sort of thing before, you can cross reference to this post and see who's sent what where, and you can mail them all again if you want. Nothing wrong with being a little pushy, right? There's also a starter message for you, which I might have to update now that we're closer to the release, but I'll check that later, and edit accordingly.

Sites like Reddit and Digg shouldn't have long texts. Just a headline and a link to the album/tracks. It should be self-explanatory as well.
So how'bout: Binärpilot - Nordland (Album).
Should also include tags such as free, chiptunes, robots and other.

I just edited the other post for length, and I'm thinking I'm going to trim it down some more just to make it specific for Nordland's release. I'm so bad with words today though. :/
good times!

I'll submit to Reddit, if that's okay. I don't like submitting on Digg (since I'm a redditor and my username is so silly), but I'll upvote/digg it when it's submitted.
Alright. Any specific music sites we should consider? Except the ones from Rachaels list.

Jamendo has said they will help generate hype in any way they can. Other than that I'm pretty much at a loss for marketing ideas right now.
The fan-financed, available for free angle is interesting, might get picked up by the blogs. I'm thinking BoingBoing, kottke etc.
Anyone dare to mess with 4chan, just for the sake of it? Perhaps not on /b/ though...
4chan has provided a lot of hits, a few of the Nordland donations are Anonymous.
Of course, there's also a donation from a wizard (!).

Ey! Don't forget the CYBORG T-REX.
Joking aside, any news on release date? Or is it Superheroes-only information?

I need to make sure it's all caps.
After some unforeseen delays due to his work schedule, 08.08 will be a tough sell, but Ray is working hard on the cover. He'll have it done ASAP. I will post the definitive date as soon as everything has been delivered to the printshop.

Being an editor in chief of a nice and shiny little electronic music blog (a tiny one, but I assume they all work the same), I might provide some ideas concerning do's and don't.
1: make an absolutely stunning 10 minute promomix of the album. Pendulum did so for their previous album (which also sucked), and it reached a lot of blogs without even giving much marketing attention to it.
2: use your best track (which, if I might guess, is Forte da Funk), make a short and informal press release including the link to this track (on soundcloud and as a deeplink), and send it to the, oh well, 100 most influential music blogs. Visit each site personally, address the authors by their (website) name, and propose to give exclusive material / free downloads / free cd's if they give attention to your album. Don't mass mail. I would mark it as spam.
3: make a refreshing video clip for your best track. Blogs love posting video's of kick ass footage. Nobody Beats The Drum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntc4l-poovo) did an amazing job, but it also took them bloody ages to make this.
4: facebook and twitter are your friends. Spread the word, find influential people to repeat your message.
5: digg and reddit, imho, aren't worth the time and energy that you need to create mass - and by doing so attention - there. They're so general that you reach loads and loads of people that you don't want to reach. Long tails are the new, er, short tails.

Posted by Alexander:A song I never finished/released. It's also used in the KEF video.
Dude, that's actually my song, lol.
Nah, it's actually some noodling that grew out of my remix of Krii - Only For Your (Impulse Tracker file).
Here's the 30 second clip. I vaguely recall sending it over to Alexander for playing around with, and it made his speaker get up in the morning.

I remember getting the sample from you, I did not remember it being a 3 minute long song however ;)

I found the module, it's called THEN repeat(512);
Strangely makes sense eh? Also, it's crap.

Done some SEO updating and sharing on Facebook should be 10x sexier now. I've also dropped Myspace from Hype and rewritten parts of the backend for albums.
Putting up a campaign on Adwords and Facebook for Nordland as we speak.

That's what the reddit-submissions should've been called! But since someone beat me to posting the nordland-url, I can't alter the title.
Also added a cover-art plug to /r/pics. I had to crop (and added credits) for my blog, I used the same picture.
Need more upgoats.

It's always interestind in watching visitor traffic when a new release is out. Want to see a higher spike, so more promotion needed!

Wow, that article just devolved into a massive anti-aXXo vs. pro-aXXO food fight with a few Binar-related comments.
Oh the internets.

lol, yeah.
missing the point much? those guys are the epitome of the song. "anonymous space, lacks grace, and it would rather see you burn"

What Rachael says. It's a tragic but beautiful thing to witness all over again.
Hah, I checked the log. The Torrentfreak post has pulled in more hits than Facebook (!). Drama equals traffic I suppose.

So, is Binar-bombing 4chan a good thing or no?? I see it as both, equally.
Opinions?
