Cyberspace » Happy Birthday Alex!

I was on facebook and I noticed that tomorrow is our favorite Pilot's birthday and i tought that I should make an discussion about something, so how did you first hear about Binärpilot or meet Alexander, hope you have some great stories and again HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX:D

Edit:
I Realised that i didnt really write anything so, I saw him at hove09 (i war actually waiting for Captain Credible) and untill four weeks ago i had forgot about Binärpilot until my girlfriend's best friend said have you heard Binärpilot? and my gf said yeah we saw him at hove and her friend is a HUGE fan but some days later i downloaded some tracks and got an Binary Addiction, and i sendt him a letter on FB just saying that he is my hero, and stuff like that after a week or so i just dived into the add friend and he said accepted lol

any how so much GOOD LUCK with the wedding and burgers with eggs
Thank you! Binärpilot was born in a smoky office in Bodø late one night after working for weeks with Gunchip. My current nick, Toyrobot, had been abducted by evil trance DJ's (Germany!) and so a new alias was needed. Now the name is so completely tied with everything I associate this music to be that it would be impossible to change. Nor do I want to.
urørt on nrk p3, several times. think goof was what got me back into listening. remember that cute speaker lying in a bed from loooong ago, digged the crazy floating sounds.
don't really remember how long ago, but I remember it as pretty distant past, haha.
well, at least to some degree.
I first met Alexander on EFNet around '98/'99 or so, going by the handle daike. I was in a couple of tracker groups at the time, but he invited me to his group N3 (Norwegian Noise Ninjas), which later became Low Frequency Neenjas. Oddly enough, the domain still exists. LFN kinda died out after 10-15 releases or so. Alexander changed his handle to Compute, and took the initiative to found the Microhertz netlabel, which is also when the Popollution manifesto first appeared.

I don't think the Compute moniker lasted very long, because he was billed as Toyrobot on the poster for Microdisco - our first label night in Bodø in 2001. Which, incidentally, is when I first met him in person. Although it was a total financial failure, Microdisco was a big win. Some of the stories are probably best left untold, but I vaguely recall Alexander calling people owing me money, threatening them to pay up so I could get plane tickets back home for me and my friends.

Toyrobot didn't last very long either, the first Microhertz release was the Elektronaut vs. Binärpilot Gunchip split CDR. (Fun fact: I was so stoked about doing a split EP that I banged those tracks out over a day or two). Microhertz died out after a while too. I was mostly focusing on doing my iapga project on Miasmah. Alexander was mostly interested in writing music, and ended up releasing Defrag on 8bitpeoples.

Three years ago, we both found ourselves living in Oslo. He was starting to make a name for himself, helped by being featured as artist of the week on Urørt (a show on national radio) and later at by:Larm (after being ripped off by Fitts for Fight, funny enough). He invited me to do a gig with him at Microdisko (not related to our Microhertz night) at Spasibar in 2007, which was a blast. Our first gigs were billed as Binärpilot vs. Elektronaut, but we decided to focus on his stuff and do the Binärpilot live shows as a duo. The Binärpilot Band is a natural progression of this.

Anyway, happy birthday dude! He's gonna spend the day on planes and in airports for the sake of getting married, so wish him a good trip.
happpy biiirthday alexaaander.

in 2005, a friend of mine told me he had discovered this new artist he pronounced By-nair-pilot. (I literally just learned how to say it correctly this year, and honestly I'm probably not even doing it right still). Anyway, my friend said he was from Norway and took a lot of smoke breaks when talking on MSN with him (haha). So anyway, he burned me a cd, and I took it home and listened, listened, listened. Mind you, I had never even heard Daft Punk before so this was like, a whole new world for me. I found Binärpilot's music page on myspace and sent him a message asking him all kinds of (probably annoying and redundant) questions. He added me on MSN and that's how we started talking; and continued to for about a year. After a while we lost touch, and I was pretty beat up about it. Couldn't listen to his music even; although by that time everyone in my high school had become obsessed with Binärpilot and I heard it pretty much on a day to day basis. Anyway, Alexander and I spoke very rarely off and on for about two years, and then in 2008 after a long time without talking we started up again. Around September of 2008 I finally got the courage to ask him to come to America, and he bought the tickets. I picked him up from the airport in January, he stayed with me for two weeks, and then I moved to Oslo to be with him in April. And now we're getting married next Wednesday :) I'm pretty happy with the way things worked out to say the least. Sort of too surreal to really think about it though.

And Inge, it'll still be his birthday when he gets here so i'm taking him for a good ol American dinner of burgers with eggs in em, and to go see Zombieland! Should be good times :)
Yeah, I've fed him with -real- burgers (which does include eggs) while you were gone.

Also, bacon.

royal red robin

yeah, its delicious. and when you go into red robin on your birthday you get a free piece of Mountain High Mud Pie. What's that, you ask? Oh. Its THIS.

Should there be an Eggs on burger thread? i'm starting to thing so
Mountain High Mud Pie? something from that 70's show? lol
Happy birthday man !!!

Et Bon Voyage
about 13 hours later…
Well, pull me backwards and call me Lucy!

Congratulations, Alexander!

I'm also going to a birthday party today - the third one in a row. I'm kinda beat now...and hungry. Those pictures did not help my lust for some burger. And I don't mean make-it-yourself kinda burger.

And lets not get into that pie....man oh man...
Coming back on the track set by the topic :

I never met Alex.
I was musing on Jamendo, and just saw the "You Can't Stop Da Funk" album art, and instantly loved it !

So then I went there : http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/binaerpilot, and listened to TokyoMatrix 3000.

TAHT WAS THE REVELATION

I kept listening to this fucking track more than 20 times a day, then I went of BinaerPilot.com and downloaded the torrent with all the music...

I couldn't believe how such quality music could be free. I presented the site to friends, some loved it (the most open-minded to the gameboy-like sounds you can find in chiptek), others didn't care, others mocked me, saying "Ho ! You're listening to the Super Mario OST ? Great !" (fuckers)

Anyway, I donated to get to the site's private area (lol) and today... Well I'm waiting for NordLand, and the day that I can see Alex live.

Also, Id' like to help but I'm not an easely motivated guy - fighting with anxiety and procrastination, mainly - and I'm meant to be designing a shirt idea I got and to help by recording lyrics too.

It's unbelievable that artists such as BinaerPilot, She Music, SubatomicGlue and others give away quality sound... But it's the state of the industry today : you always can get everything for free, so you have the liberty to chose who you give your money for, based on having HAVING LISTENED to the track.

Cheers
The first time I heard anything by Binaerpilot was TomSka's ASDFMovie on Youtube, featuring the songs "Acrodysostosis" and "Goof." I set out in search of more of this wonderful music, and it led here. I saw the entire Binaerpilot discography up for grabs, via a torrent, and noticed a thread in the forum for improvements to the site, and asked about a ZIP archive with the contents in it for HTTP download. It was added, and I was listening to everything a few minutes afterward.

Oddly enough, it was a week, or a month, after I had set out on my own to try to make electronic music, and Binaerpilot has had a big influence in how I write my music, from getting my first drum samples from the site, to the sound (from which I rely heavily for inspiration). I dare say Binaerpilot has changed that aspect of my life.

So, happy birthday, Alex, and thanks for the music.
1 day later…
The first time I had heard Alex's music was when a friend of mine had decided to download the entire 8bitpeople's discography and listen to the albums one by one. Eventually we got to Defrag and were hooked. Shortly there after I was bored, had extra time on my hands during a late night, and edited some old footage together to create the legendary videos, which included the one for Bend. It's been over three years now. I still listen to all the classics and some of the new material. It never gets old.

Alex and I don't talk as much as we used to, but I know we'd still get along quite well if we did.

Congratulations to Alex on another year, and of course to Alex and Rachael in advance of Wednesday!

I can't believe I was already talking about Nordland in this post exactly a year ago with this epic post
Cheers!

I saw that tweet! Diggin' the fiks is always good :)
Congratulations!
Happy Birthday! :>
May I wish you a happy birthday, kind sir.

As for how I heard about binärpilot, well it was back in 2005 if I recall correctly, and I heard about this new website called jamendo. I happened to stumble upon some awesome album in a sea of less than enjoyable music, namely Defrag. I kept listening to it over and over for a while. After about two years, I remembered this artist I had somehow forgotten about, and went on Jamendo again to find two new albums. I was blissful. From that point I discovered the website, the community, and have been waiting eagerly for a new album. Long live binäpilot and everyone who is engaged in the war against popollution.

Happy Birthday!

Thank you again for all the great music and the awesomeness that goes with it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAYZ MR BINAERPILOT! :)
Hope you enjoy your day, you made me enjoy many of mine.
Happy birthday Binär!
Stay gold :)
Just donated something, and forgot to add the donation message at times. So here it is.

Dear Binärpilot,
my donation is missing 10USD. I know this. But still, I am just a poor student, and I'd have bought Nordland if I would have had the 10 missing dollars :D
So what I actually wanted to say is:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXANDER!
I hope you enjoyed your day (yes, it's almost over already, I was busy all day :/) and your binary cake. I hope it wasn't (fully) nom'd by CYBORG T-REX. I still fail at decoding it, but meh.

Happy Greetings to Rachael and Ziggy, I luv your music and your stylez. Thank you for the underground, which is where the shit happens.
(the cake was a lie)

Oh and you want a Nordland CD? I got a spare one for sure.

Thank you for being my friends. Traveled out to space and back again. Your hearts are true, you are my pals and my confidants.

And if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew. You would see I'd play some beats for you and me, and the intro track would say, thank you for being my friends.

I DO WANT ONE MUCH. VERY. MUCH. I mean, it's gonna be epic like hell to have this really rare CD in like 10 years already. And it already would be, because it's a CD to touch, with awesome artwork and lovely tracks.
Also, a CD will be like stone age in some years already. I haven't grewn up with LPs sadly, but I do love them too, they haz style.
Epic retro shit. <3
